Intersectionality Fair

This was a university project and the team to develop it was formed by the lecturer. For this project we had to design a live art event in the Treforest campus the 3rd of May 2022.

We wanted to use a controversial topic and raise awareness on it. When designing it we got very interested in Happenings, we found very interesting raising awareness through this form of live art. However, the public wouldn’t be able to fully participate since we intended to design something focusing on the citizen power, according to Arnstein’s ladder of participation. That is the reason why we decide to create a fair.

Intersectionality is an analytical framework for understanding how aspects of a person's social and political background combine affects their position of power within society, privilege and disadvantage.

Students come from different backgrounds, and we each possess traits that make us unique. Sometimes this makes being a student easier, but sometimes it can make it harder.

We wanted to highlight these differences, celebrate them, and show that we are a diverse group of people as students. We wanted to  raise awareness about intersectionality and how privilege and disadvantage can play a part in the student experience. Being aware of people’s intersectionality will help to be more empathic towards others.
